slash commands too fast for EQ2

I really like the option of using mini macro's. Unfortunately I'm having trouble using slash commands in EQ2. The problem is that the input is sent too fast for EQ2 to process. A slash command like </useability spirit of the wolf> results in

/useability spi

or sometimes just

/useabi

If it would be possible to slow down the rate at which you send the characters to the EQ2 window, that would make the slash commands in mini macro's a lot more useful.

(By the way, this has nothing to do with the speed of my computer. I have a high end game machine that easily runs the game in the highest possible settings. It's just the way EQ2 processes input sent to its chat windows.)

I tried the Lag-O-Meter, but that didn't work, because it only affects pauzes and not the speed at which the command text is send to the game window.

Naturally, the same problem occurs in both the Boxing Assistant and the Control Assistant.

Kind Regards,

Richard

Hey there. EQ2 is real finicky about the speed of input sent to the game window.  We may add an adjustable slider to compensate for this in the next release as nothing seems perfect for everyone.  The longer the command the more apparant the issue.  And it is mostly EQ2. Other games do not seem as strict.  What you can do for now though is to add a slight pause in between the words.

Like:  /usea <5~10> Spirit <5~10> of the <5~10> wolf

This should send it in 3 parts. Worth a try anyway. The most reliable method is just to send a hot key  Smile

Hope this helps.

Something like that might work. I will try it, but how do I send an 'ENTER' at the end of the command?

You don't have to. If it is a slash command the Boxin Assistant knows to send enter at the end.

No it doesn't. It will only send an Enter at the end of a slash command if it is enclosed in < >.

</usea cure>

would get an enter at the end, but

/usea cure

does not. It just opens some random windows. It does not seem to send the "/" to start typing a command in the chat window.

And you can't, as far as I have experienced, not use mini macro's within mini macro's.

</usea <5~10> cure>
doesn't work.

If I try
</:1>usea cure
The slash gets send, but the cursor keeps blinking in the chat window, because there is no ENTER at the end.

There is also another issue with longer mini macros.

</:1>usea spirit o
will send
/usea spirit o
to the chat window, but
</:1>usea spirit of
sends
/FFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Aha... now I understand.  You seem to be setting up commands with out having read any of the tool tips or the help file and just trying different syntaxes in hope of victory.  While this is an exciting, and possibly entertaining way of doing it, you would save much time if you just use the mini macro builder that we included in the Boxin Assistant for this task. Assembling mini macros.

For example: You cannot use /usea unless you are wanting to open a lot of windows by sending  /,   u,   s,   e,  a, as individual keys. A mini macro is always enclosed in brackets like: </usea heal> and enter is automatically sent after it. Even then it is only reliable for short commands (in EQ2). If you have a long spell name like "/usea Spirit of the Wolf" then you will be best off to make a hotkey for it and just send 6.  Laughing

In games like LOTRO I can send like 12 different commands in one mini macro and it all gets processed, but not in eq2.  Keep it short and simple.

Hey! That's not the case. I read the entire help text (even though I still had some questions after reading it, I was generally satisfied with the help files, as they are better and more detailed than with many other programs). I also read the tooltips and I do use the mini macro builder.

I just like to experiment and find out what this tool can and cannot do. I like coding and writing macro’s. It didn’t say anywhere in the help files that commands longer than x characters don’t work in EQ2. So, it’s not that weird that I’m trying such a thing.

I have my own play style and I use lots of macro’s in game. There are only so many hotbars and hotkeys you can use. I also frequently shift them around and forget what hotkey did what in my previous setup. Using slash commands with the name of the spell makes things less dependent on what macro’s and abilities I have somewhere on my hotbars. I want to use the tool as much as possible to accommodate my play style, not adjust my play style to the tool, if you know what I mean. Not in the first place anyway.

Besides, you suggested using:

 /usea <5~10> Spirit <5~10> of the <5~10> wolf

which doesn’t work because the command has to be enclosed with < > and you can’t use macro’s within macros.

Anyway, I do like the software and will continue to experiment with it. I also think there is room for improvement. For instance, I love that little colour/location picker magnifier window, but would also like to be able to change location and colour parameters independent of each other, without having to go into the ini file.

But mostly, I hope you will include some kind of adjustable setting in your next version, to make it possible to slow down the rate at which the command characters are sent to the EQ2 chat window.

Kind regards,

Richard

Hehe, its all good Wink

We orginally had the X: Y: Color: locations exposed on each control but it made the interface look so intimidating for most people that just did not want to see all that. And the interface windows have expanded a lot and gotten pretty complex so it was a lot to look at. Possibly a button for "details" that would expose it.

We will try and add a key send speed adjustment in the next release. Maybe that will help when sending long mini macros in EQ2.

We added settings to slow down the keys and mouse click delay and duration to v6.0 of the Boxin and Control Assistant.  Smile
